I am 29 years old and I've been teaching English as a second or foreign language for 10 years. I live in Uruguay, but I'm an avid traveller and I'm always looking for my next destination.
I am a flexible and dynamic teacher, I enjoy adapting to my students' needs and preferences. Besides English and Spanish, I enjoy learning languages, so I know what it is like to be a student too. Currently I'm learning German, Danish and Italian.
I received my TESOL teaching certificate when I was 19 years old. Since then I've been deepening my knowledge of English. I try to take the exam for the Certificate of Proficiency once every two or three years, because even though I am teaching all the time, I feel that I still need to pay attention to my study of the language.
I have been teaching for 10 years. I have experience with the widest variety of students: from six-year-olds to retired seniors, from exchange students to stay-at-home-moms. I truly enjoy developing strategies in order to adapt to the different backgrounds my students bring to the class. Since 2012 I have been dedicating half my classes to international exam preparation, so I have solid experience in this regard. I prepare FCE, CAE, CPE, TOEFL, IELTS, etc.
My certificates are the following:
- Certificate of competency in English, issued by the University of Michigan in 2005
- Certificate of Proficiency in English, issued by the University of Michigan in 2008
- Certificate of Proficiency in English, issued by the University of Cambridge in 2012
- TESOL Certificate: An introduction to teaching ESL/EFL, 2008
- Certificate in Teaching English to speakers of other languages (Arizona State University), 2017
My working experience:
- From 2008 to 2012 I worked as a private tutor.
- Since 2012 I work at a ESL/EFL institute that is specialized in the preparation of international exams such as Cambridge Proficiency and First Certificate, but I also teach conversation lessons and English for specific purposes.
I am a very dynamic and flexible teacher. I enjoy challenges and adapting to different situations. I like to make the lessons about the student rather than the teacher, so I really try to understand my students' motivation for learning the language and building on that to achieve our goals.
I like to focus the classes in conversation, but writing is also a very important skill. If you book a 45 minute class, it will be 30 minutes conversation and 15 minutes writing. If you have something that you want to work on in particular, or if you want to focus on writing, you should book a separate 45 minutes to dedicate entirely to writing.
I plan my classes around topics of interest to the student, as well as general culture and current events. If there's a topic in particular that interests you, make sure to let me know so I include it in our next lesson plan.
