Hello, my name is Delia Silva and I'm an experienced native English language tutor currently living in Portugal. I have been teaching English online since 2018.
About me - English

I was born in South Africa but moved to Portugal in 2002 after completing my CELTA through Cambridge University. I have had teaching experience in England as well as Portugal. I have taught adults as well as children for many years. I speak and read Portuguese at an upper-intermediate level. Besides my experience in teaching, I have also worked in financial fields.

In my free time, I love reading, watching films and spending time with my family. I am married and have two young children. Cooking and nature are also on my list of favourite things to do.

Teaching Approach

I strongly believe that teaching is a way of empowering students to believe in themselves. They need to gain enough confidence to feel like they can speak English. By engaging students in the learning process and allowing them to choose what they feel comfortable talking about, gives them the motivation to speak more and improve their skills. Before I begin a lesson with students, I ask them if they want to be corrected on the spot or only at the end. Personally I think correcting at the end is better, as it does not break the flow of communication and does not make the student feel self-conscious. However, if they ask to be corrected on the spot, I will gladly do it.
