Hello, my name is Leanne. I am a fun-loving American, who absolutely loves teaching English and living in Moscow, Russia. I love to travel around the world and make new friends. I have lived in Ukraine, Thailand, and Russia. I've been in Russia now since 2014. In my free time, I love to swim, scuba dive, spend time with friends, go to concerts, and write. My next vacation is always going to be where there is a beach, so I can scuba dive and swim.
I'm a teacher and student at heart, which means I love to exchange ideas and opinions with you. I find that we can learn so much from each other when we share our lives. Many of my ideas about life have been changed because of a short conversation that provided a new point of view. It amazes me how much we have in common when we remove the politics and propaganda and talk about life. After my travels, I have come to the conclusion that no matter where we are from we all have the same problems, fears, and joys.
I look forward to talking to you about my travels and hearing about yours. I look forward to sharing my ideas with you in a non-judgmental atmosphere.
I am an American-qualified attorney and law professor from the state of Iowa. I worked as a litigator in Iowa for 12 years before taking a leave of absence to teach English. In my first year of teaching English, I found a legal center in Moscow and began working there as a law professor.
In 1996, I obtained my bachelor’s degree in the Russian language and International Business Certificate. In 2000, I obtained a Juris Doctor and International and Comparative Law Certificate.
In 2014, I received a TESOL certificate.
English Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching English abroad since 2013. I first taught private lessons in Kiev, Ukraine from August 2013 to February 2014. I moved to Thailand and received my TESOL certificate where I taught English, Science, and Math to 2nd grade students at Satit Udomseuksa Academy in Pattaya, Thailand, for 6 months. From there, I moved to Moscow, Russia, and taught English to teenagers at English First for one year. In 2014, I began working at Pericles, Center for International Legal Education. At Pericles, I teach Legal Writing and Research, Legal English, Language of Contracts, Approaching Legal English, and TOEFL.
I also teach private English lessons to all anyone that wants to learn English. I have taught every level there is and ages 8 to adult. I also teach business English.
I can't wait to discuss what I can teach you!
I work hard to make my lessons fun, interesting, and effective. That means I will find out what you want to learn. Then I will build the lessons around your likes and English goals. I like to share my culture with my students, so don't be surprised if we take a break from your serious goals to talk about New Year's Day in your country. I will then share with you the vocabulary you need to talk to Americans about New Year's and what traditions we have.
I am a lover of grammar and do my best to make sure you understand the grammar rules. We practice, practice, practice because there is no better way to reach the next level of English. You will be speaking more than me as that is the best way to speak English. The more you talk, the more practice you have.
I can either teach from a textbook or design classes to meet your specific needs. I love to use different methods in my lessons such as videos, songs, newspaper articles, or movie clips. In addition, I have taught and enjoy teaching almost any age group. I have taught 6-year-olds to adults and from beginner to proficiency.
In addition, I speak Russian fluently, which is a great asset for teaching beginning English to Russians. When Russian students want to make sure they understood me, they can translate into Russian what I said in English.
