About me - English
My name is Megan Trout and I am a private English teacher specializing in Conversation English and Test Preparation. I live in Nevada, USA with my fiancée and dog. I speak American English.
I started teaching when I was 15 years old with my first job as a Ski Instructor. Since then, I have had several different teaching jobs, including skiing, Taekwondo, and English. Teaching is my passion and could not see myself doing any other job.
Qualifications & Experience
I have TESOL certificates in Advanced, Children, and Business which I received through the American TESOL Institute.
I attended and graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor degree in Anthropology, focus on Japanese Studies and East Asia.
I have done private tutoring in English for 3 years for college students and professional adults. I also just recently finished a 1 year abroad, teaching English in South Korea at the middle and high school levels.
Teaching Approach
My teaching approach is focused on the student and their needs and wants. I customize lessons to the student and am flexible. I feel that when learning to speak, the most important aspect is building confidence in the student's current knowledge while adding to their knowledge base. Someone who is not confident or comfortable in speaking will have more difficulty when trying to speak, and I work to help build the confidence they need.
I am naturally a "passive correcter" in the sense that I do not interrupt my students thoughts while they are speaking. I, instead, will make a note of a correction that needs to be made and discuss it with the student after they have finished their sentence or thought. I use this method with my conversation students.
However, if the student wants someone who is more active in correction, I am happy to accommodate them, it is about what the student needs and wants for their lessons.
