I grew up in Japan and graduated from Waseda University.
My major was law. I've lived in NYC for more than 4 years. I have been back and forth to Tokyo many times on business and vacation.
I have traveled to more than 20 countries in the past 10 years. My passion is food, traveling and learning new cultures. I am friendly and easy going!
I've taught Japanese for 7 years on a regular basis (3 years in Japan, 4 years in NY). I have a wide range of methods to teach from beginners to advanced. I have experience in teaching Japanese for international company programs (Investment Bank, Insurance companies...).
I have also been a professional composer and writer for 10 years. I worked as a composer for commercials, play and TV program including a Japanese education TV program called "With Mom" which encourages babies and kids to learn Japanese.
From one of my clients:
"Aki is a great tutor. She has been tutoring me since last May on a weekly basis. She is always punctual, professional and has a great sense of humor. She is extremely intelligent. I did not know any Japanese before I started. Her schedule is flexible which is great for anyone that works during the day. She is always available to answer any questions I have with my homework assignments. I would recommend her always for Japanese tutoring."
I've registered with the other tutor site here too, you could see more reviews.
If you are beginner, I will teach you how to introduce yourself first and you will start with numbers, directions, time. If you are intermediate or advanced, we will talk about diverse topics.
In my experience, talking about your passion is the easiest way to learn a language! I will teach you vocabulary, local slang and beautiful phrases which textbooks never explain!
About textbooks: I have students both with/without textbooks. I have some books to recommend you but we will discuss about it during lessons.
Great lesson to practice Japanese. Aki sensei is really nice!
Another great lesson as usual, I can't wait for next week.
Amazing lesson. Akiha san was a really good teacher, she was patient as I tried to figure out why my mic wasn't initially working, and started the time from when I resolved the issue!! I can't wait to improve my Japanese skills!
