My name is Claudio Battaglia and I am a 40 years old teacher of Italian as a foreign language. I am highly qualified. After graduating in Classics, awarded with honors, in 2005 I attended a Master's Degree in "Teaching Italian as a second language" and in recent years I have also achieved certification DILS (Teaching Italian as a Foreign Language) II level, at the University for Foreigners of Perugia. Over the last ten years I have gained a lot of experience in the field of language teaching, experimenting with the most varied professional contexts, in Italy and abroad: from the Italian Cultural Institute to the university, and then the applied language center and private schools. I am very bouncy and curious, I love to explore different cultures and lifestyles. I think I have a lot of positive energy and that I am able to pass it in the professional field. I have unshakable confidence in communication, at all levels, that's why to me teaching means primarily a reciprocal and endless enrichment.

January - June 2006: Italian teacher. Italian Cultural Institute, Prague, Czech Republic (I taught in multilingual classes of different Italian language proficiency levels. I was also involved in cultural activities aimed at disseminating Italian culture in situ).

September 2006 - March 2008: Italian Language Assistant. University College Dublin (UCD), Belfield, Dublin 4. I worked as a Language Assistant and instructor in the Italian Department, lecturing in grammar, conversation, text translation, interpretation and composition. I was in charge also of I year language and conversation courses planning and coordinating. This involved setting examinations, teaching schedules and regular course work as well as monitoring the work of other tutors.

October 2007 - March 2008: Italian teacher. Civil Service Language Centre, Lansdowne Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.I taught Italian in a II level class, using an integrated approach as well as IT equipment and web resources.

April - September 2008: Italian Language teacher. University for Foreigners of Perugia, p. zza Fortebraccio 4, 06123, Perugia. I worked as a language expert and my duties involved teaching Italian at level A2, B1, B2 of the European Framework, focusing on speaking, reading, listening and writing skills and on integrated skills. I was involved in the “Marco Polo” project, a six-months Italian study program specifically designed for Chinese students.

October - December 2008: Italian teacher. Civitasitalia Italian Language School, via Aldo Moro 55, 62012, Civitanova Marche (MC). I taught Italian to foreigners at every level. I was also in charge of the worldwide school promotion.

June - September 2009: Italian Language teacher. University for Foreigners of Perugia, p. zza Fortebraccio 4, 06123, Perugia. I worked as a language expert and my duties involved teaching Italian at level A2, B1, B2 of the European Framework, focusing on speaking, reading, listening and writing skills and on integrated skills. I also taught in the “Marco Polo” project, an academic 6-months language learning project focused on Italian language and culture and specifically designed for Chinese students.

January 2010 - February 2011: Expert developer of contents for e-learning, within the Firb/LIRA University research project, a project coordinated by the University for Foreigners of Perugia in partnership with the University of Bologna, the University of Modena-Reggio Emilia, the University of Verona. The project was aimed at creating and setting up a repository of Learning Objects, that is to say online teaching and learning contents and materials.

I worked as a language expert and my duties involved teaching Italian at level A1, A2, B1, B2 of the European Framework, focusing on speaking, reading, listening and writing skills and on integrated skills. I also taught in the “Marco Polo” project, an academic 6-months language learning project focused on Italian language and culture and specifically designed for Chinese students.

My teaching approach is essentially an integrated approach, set to fulfil learners needs (in terms of language and cultural expectations) and offering a varied and diverse input, without ever losing sight of the final target. A critical part is reserved to speaking interaction between the tutor and the student and to the continuous student's exposure to authentic Italian language. The materials and learning techniques used may vary in relation to the abilities to develop or strengthen (reading and speaking skills, writing or listening, or integrated skills). Short movies, songs, advertising, newspaper articles, materials offered by the context of social networks, written texts of contemporary Italian are carefully chosen so that they are always pleasant, engaging and profitable and are inserted into a language teaching path that can favor the receipt and processing of the input or can stimulate most creative and productive activities of the learner. In case of need the focus can also be on the analysis and assessment of the most difficult and complex aspects of grammar, with activities and exercises, using also Powerpoint or other resources. It is also possible to explore the vocabulary and the language structures related to specific contexts of Italian language (health, economics, law, politics, etc.).

Mi chiamo Claudio Battaglia, ho 40 anni e sono un insegnante di italiano a stranieri altamente qualificato. Dopo la laurea in Lettere Classiche, conseguita con il massimo dei voti, nel 2005 ho frequentato un master di II livello in "Didattica dell'italiano come L2/LS" e in anni più recenti ho conseguito anche la certificazione DILS (Didattica dell'italiano come Lingua Straniera) di II livello, presso l'Università per Stranieri di Perugia. Nel corso degli ultimi dieci anni ho maturato una grande esperienza nel campo della glottodidattica, sperimentando i più variegati contesti professionali, in Italia e all'estero: dall'istituto italiano di cultura alle università, ai centri linguistici di ateneo e le scuole private. Sono una persona estremamente dinamica e curiosa, amo molto esplorare culture diverse e confrontarmi con stili di vita differenti dal mio. Penso di possedere una grande energia e di riuscire a trasmetterla anche in campo professionale. Ho una fiducia incrollabile nella comunicazione, ad ogni livello, è per questo che intendo l'attività d'insegnamento soprattutto come uno scambio reciproco e continuo, un arricchimento costante e incessante.

Il mio approccio didattico è essenzialmente un approccio integrato, che parte dai bisogni linguistici. comunicativi e culturali dell'apprendente e mira a soddisfarli offrendo un input variegato e diversificato, senza mai perdere di vista il target finale. Una parte essenziale è riservata all'interazione comunicativa ed espressiva tra tutor e studente e all'esposizione dello studente alla lingua autentica. I materiali e le tecniche di apprendimento impiegate possono variare in relazione alle abilità da sviluppare o potenziare (abilità di produzione scritta o orale, abilità di ricezione scritta o orale, oppure abilità integrate). Filmati, canzoni, pubblicità, materiali offerti dal contesto dei socialnetwork, testi scritti dell'italiano contemporaneo sono sempre didattizzati in modo piacevole, coinvolgente e proficuo e sono inseriti in un percorso glottodidattico che può privilegiare la ricezione e rielaborazione dell'input o può stimolare l'attività più creativa e produttiva dell'apprendente. In caso di necessità è prevista anche una fase di analisi e fissazione degli aspetti grammaticali più ostici e complessi, con attività di esercitazione e con l'ausilio di schede in powerpoint.
