Hello, I'm Lynette Evans and I come from Wales, in the UK. Always passionate about travelling and meeting new cultures, I've lived abroad for many years, first in Europe but mostly in the USA and I was in Peru working and volunteering teaching English for three months. I'm quite creative and used to work as an artist teaching children and adults in the community as well as volunteering with those who did not have access to classes.
Six years ago, I returned to Europe, got my certification in teaching English and have since been teaching in Spain. Teaching has been a natural path for me to follow as I not only love learning but also sharing knowledge and motivating people to follow their goals. I am very easy going and get on with all types of people. I'm particularly interested in psychology and happiness. Last year I studied The Science of Happiness with UC Berkley and in the last couple of years I also became a certified life coach and I run an online motivational page to inspire others. Besides teaching and motivating people, I am an avid photographer and I have been sharing bits of my mixed media art, globally for the last four years.
I truly believe we can accomplish anything we set our minds to as long as we can commit to taking small steps of action every day.
In 2010, I received my TEFL, with merit, and my TESOL in Madrid from EBC International
I have taught in Spain for the last six years, all levels, general and business, which included working closely with Cambridge and for Oxford Business, Espana. Some of the companies I have taught English in include, Telefonica Fundacion, Iberia Airlines, Reale Seguridad, Fjord Graphic Design, La Caixa bank, the Ministry of Defence and IEDE business school, the English part of their MBA programme. I also work privately with many companies to train in public speaking and business communication. I have a strong background in business training, customer service and hospitality management. Most of my teaching the last three years has been concentrated on business related classes and conversation fluency, public speaking, interviews etc. I also do intensive classes.
The majority of my students have been Spanish speaking, but I have also worked with Italian, Portuguese and Japanese students. I work face to face as well as online and telephone.
My priority is on teaching to communicate effectively, using key words and phrases that are recognised internationally. My preference is to work with those at a B1 level and above and I am asked a lot to work with those who have what they call 'rusty English'.
My approach is communicative with an emphasis on global communication, pronunciation and fluency. Having an online tutor is especially useful in developing your listening skills as well as your speaking. I pick topics of interest around your learning needs, often using fun quizzes and role plays to keep you involved and to recycle new vocabulary until you are at ease using it. It's a fast changing world with the Internet and it's become vital to communicate effectively. Though I teach mostly the British English, I also like to point out the differences in American English, as they come up. Being familiar with different native cultures is important as what is acceptable by American standards would often be frowned upon by the British, and vice versa.
My lessons are designed around each student's needs, often based on interests or current events, and developing oral and listening skills. Coaching is very much part of my business, therefore I do expect my students to take some responsibility for their own learning and commit to spending at least a few minutes a day exposed to the language. But I don't believe in boring lessons, so you should also be prepared for some fun exercises, role plays or quizzes to practice your vocabulary. I do offer a free trial lesson.
Give me a try and let's get you started!
