About me - English

Hi, my name is Bronwyn and I’m a native English speaker and Canadian. I worked for four years as an ESL teacher in Mexico City. I recently moved back to Toronto and am now teaching English online.

As an ESL teacher, my speciality is conversation classes. I specialize in business vocabulary, phrases, and conversation. I can help you with your presentation skills, meeting skills, and teleconference skills, or teach you to speak informally and naturally with English-speaking coworkers and clients. I’ve also helped my students prepare for job interviews in English by practicing typical questions and learning key vocabulary.

Finally, I’ve taught TOEFL preparation classes and have specific experience with preparing students for the speaking section. Students who need English for high school or university will also benefit from my conversation classes.

Qualifications & Experience

I taught English as a second language for four years in Mexico City to professionals at international companies like Mattel, W Hotels, Sura, Palacio de Hierro, and Mabe. I also worked at the InterAct language school in Mexico City for six months where I taught both teenagers and adults. I have worked with students at all levels of English fluency, from basic to advanced.

I have an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Toronto and my professional background is in book publishing, writing, and marketing. I worked for four years at global publishing company Penguin Books in the online marketing department. I now work as a fiction writer which means I have excellent grammar and writing skills.

Teaching Approach

I’m a friendly, empathetic, and non-judgmental teacher whose main concern is to help you learn. I like to customize my classes so that you learn the English YOU need for your work, job interview, schooling, upcoming vacation, etc. I already have a wide variety of conversation lesson plans and vocabulary lists we can use to guide our discussions.

My classes tend to be structured as follows:

1. Review vocabulary from last week & homework review

2. Warm-up conversation

3. New vocabulary/phrases/grammar

4. Exercises to reinforce learning of above concept

5. Conversation, role play, speaking exercises

6. Questions

7. Homework assigned

In my classes, you will be doing the talking and my job will be to correct you, make suggestions, and encourage you on your journey towards English fluency. I’m always prepared for my classes, but I’m flexible if the student wants to shift the conversation or focus of the lesson. It’s your class and my job is to make sure you get the most out of it.
