Hello!

I am a British national living in Ecuador with my wife, 3 cats and 2 dogs. I came out here for a "years work" in 2012 and like so many before me fell in love with the place and have stayed here pretty much ever since.

I like animals (obviously, I have 5 of them!) swimming in the rivers and natural waters of where I live, and learning/experiencing new things. I am a friendly, relaxed guy who likes to enjoy his work, so I like to think my classes are quite fun, but I will let you be the judge of that!

I am a fully qualified ESL Teacher - having completed the 100 hour + weekend TEFL course with TEFL England in 2011.

I also have a vast amount of experience teaching English as a foreign language to a wide array of students of differing ages and levels.

TUTOR ABC: I worked for the online English language company Tutor ABC, where I achieved a 9.49/10 satisfaction rating from nearly 900 feedback reports. Teaching experience for all ages from child to adult.

UNIVERSITY SAN FRANCISCO DE QUITO: I also have online teaching experience from one of the most recognized universities in Ecuador, again with excellent satisfaction ratings.

ANDES PETROLEUM: I worked teaching oil workers English in Ecuador.

ENGLISH 101 ACADEMY: I help out a friend of mine who has an English academy where I live for an hour a day.

ESCUELA PLANETA: I was the sole English teacher of a school in Ecuador for 2 years teaching ages 4-14

My teaching style is very relaxed, and I like to make as much conversation with the students as possible. I myself have recently learned a new language, so knowing the problems and frustrations I have had has really helped me when it comes to teaching others. It has taught me to be patient and understanding when a student does not pick something up right away.

I am a firm believer in working from the bottom. In my opinion, too many students and teachers try to cover topics too advanced for the students without them having a strong grasp on the basics first, causing much confusion and frustration on both sides. One of my strengths is explaining things in small steps in a logical way, meaning when the students come to the harder parts, they have a base to work from and are understand WHY the language is how it is, and not just have to accept it.

I am equally adept at grammar and conversation lessons, depending on the needs of the students.

Mi nombre es Ross y vivo en Ecuador con mi esposa, 3 gatos y 2 perros. Vine por aquí en el 2012, y nunca quería salir!

En mi tiempo libre me gusta caminar con mis perros, nadar en los ríos hermosos de donde vivo y aprender cosas nuevas. Una ventaja de vivir donde vivo es el estilo de la vida es muy tranquilo y eso me agrada mucho.

Soy un chico amigable y relajado, entonces me gusta que mis clases también sean así. Conversando con mis estudiantes (en Ingles, pues!) es una gran manera para aprender y siempre intento a crear un ambiente divertido en mis clases.

Mi estilo de enseñanza es muy relajado, y me gusta tener mucha conversación con mis estudiantes. Yo mismo recién he aprendido un nuevo idioma, entonces se los problemas y frustraciones – y creo que esto me ha ayudado bastante cuando enseño a los demás. Me ha enseñado a ser paciente cuando un estudiante no entiende algo.

Creo firmemente en una metodología completa desde lo básico a lo esencial. En mi opinión muchos estudiantes y profesores intentan hacer los temas demasiado avanzados sin brindar un conocimiento básico. Esto causa numerosos problemas y fracasos de ambas partes. Una de mis mejores fortalezas es explicar las ideas principales en ingles paso por paso ofreciendo una enseñanza lógica, fácil y divertida. De esta manera, los estudiantes no tendrán más dificultades ya que entendieron el porque y como está basado el ingles.

Estoy capacitado para brindar tanto clases de gramática como de conversación dependiendo de las necesidades de los estudiantes.
