It was great working with Mary again, she finds where you have a weakness in your language and focuses on those.

Oh my gosh Mary is wonderful! I had my first class with her today and it helped immensely, she's excellent. Mary is sincere and really wants to help you learn and tries to find strengths, weaknesses, whatever to help you become fluent. I am so glad she's on here. Looking forward to future classes!

My name is Mary Allegra, and I am a university professor specializing in teaching English and Spanish to adults.
My goal is to help you communicate with greater fluency, confidence, and ease. Although I work with all four language skills - listening, speaking, reading, and writing - one of my main areas of expertise is pronunciation.
I work exclusively with adult learners, and my lessons are tailored to your level, goals, and the way you need to use the language in real life.
Qualifications & Experience
I have nearly 30 years of experience in language teaching and higher education, both in Venezuela and the United States.
I hold a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics and a postgraduate specialization in Foreign Language Teaching from Universidad Simón Bolívar. Throughout my university career, I have taught English language, linguistics, language teaching methodology, phonetics, phonology, and pronunciation at both undergraduate and graduate levels. I have also been involved in teacher education and mentoring.
I am the co-author of *Pronunciation Book 1*, part of an English-language teaching series, and I have contributed to academic publications and projects related to language teaching and learning.
This combination of academic expertise and practical teaching experience allows me to identify what may be holding back your communication and help you focus on the areas that will make the greatest difference.
Teaching Approach
I don't believe that one single teaching method works for every learner. I use an eclectic approach that draws mainly on Communicative Language Teaching, Task-Based Language Teaching, and the Lexical Approach, adapting them to your individual needs and goals.
My lessons combine structured materials with meaningful, real-life communication. Rather than simply studying rules, you will work on understanding and using the language with greater confidence and naturalness.
If pronunciation is one of your challenges, we can work specifically on sounds, stress, rhythm, intonation, and other features that affect how clearly and naturally you communicate.
From our first lesson, we will identify your needs and establish clear goals so that every session has a purpose and you can recognize your progress.
