Hi, thanks for clicking on my profile. My name is Jason and I’m an English native, CELTA qualified teacher. I’m originally from Warwick, England, I moved to live in Amsterdam in 1996 but since September 2014 I've been living in Lisbon, Portugal.
I’m relaxed and get along with many different types of people. I have many interests including literature, cinema, languages, gardening, cooking and photography. I’m culturally aware and am interested in current affairs and world events. Another big interest of mine is travelling and I've travelled extensively in Asia, Africa, Europe and the US & Canada. I love being in cultures different to my own and out of my comfort zone, and I love to meet people.
My passion is studying and teaching languages and nothing gives me more satisfaction than teaching my language to others and seeing them improving daily and achieving their dreams and goals. I can think of no better career.
I’m excited about the opportunities online learning presents, so sign up for your free trial lesson and we can discuss how I can help you make the next step in your English adventure.
I look forward to meeting you.
I have a BA (Hons) degree in French and Spanish and in addition to French and Spanish I also speak Dutch fluently.
I believe my experience of studying languages makes me your perfect teacher as I'm able to empathise fully with you. The problems and difficulties you might have learning my language are probably the same issues I faced when learning French, Spanish and Dutch. I know how difficult it is to learn a language and in my mind this makes me the ideal teacher to help you achieve your goals and ambitions.
I am CELTA qualified and have experience of teaching students from 7-60+ years of age. I have extensive experience of teaching one on one classes as well as groups of both adults, teenagers and young learners, I am also experienced in preparing students for both the FCE and CAE exams.
My personal philosophy is that we never stop learning and I continue to study French, Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese on a daily basis; there’s so much to learn.
I believe strongly in a student-centred approach to teaching; your needs and requirements are what drive the lesson. I’m the teacher but I believe strongly in working together to achieve results. I don’t follow a traditional lesson path which involves me talking and you listening; my objective is to have you talking as much as possible, sometimes you will work on fluency, sometimes on accuracy. At the end of your lesson I will provide you with feedback and ideas on how you can improve.
Based on your needs I will design your own personalised lessons. If you have specific work or school related goals, want to study to speak English on holiday, to prepare for an examination, to meet English speaking people or just for fun, I can help you achieve your objectives.
I’m a supportive, flexible and patient teacher and as I've stated I have extensive experience of studying languages so I know the best way to help my students progress.
My teaching style has been developed based on my own language studies. The most important factor is that you feel comfortable enough to express yourself and I try to create a relaxed environment in which we have fun. I believe making mistakes is crucial, if we don’t make mistakes, we don’t learn. I don’t want you to be afraid of mistakes; I want you to make them, laugh at them, learn from them and progress. I will correct your pronunciation, spelling, grammar or vocabulary errors.
We won’t work extensively on grammar based tasks, unless of course you want to. I focus on teaching English that you can use in realistic situations and try to incorporate all the 4 skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) into every lesson. We will study the English that you need.
I am prepared to help all students, your level, age or location doesn't matter to me, what’s important is that you progress.
As a native English speaker, I’m also able to assist you with any writing you need to do or have checked.
So, why not organise a free lesson with me to discuss your options? After that you’re free to decide if you want to continue with me as your teacher, if so, great, if not, that’s fine, it’s your choice. What have you got to lose?
