I am a native English speaker based in the historic city of York in the United Kingdom. I have taught English overseas and also in the UK to students of many different nationalities and backgrounds. I love learning about other cultures and countries and teaching gives me the opportunity to do this. I work in public health and have many years experience working in business and understand the type of language needed to succeed
I am a CELTA qualified university graduate and have taught English for over 4 years both in the classroom and private 1-1 lessons. I have helped students prepare for IELTS tests and also TOEIC and TOEFL exams. I have taught conversational English, business English and helped learners adapt to life in English-speaking countries.
I am also a keen language learner (Spanish) and this helps me to understand my students better and what works. I know how it feels to learn a language!
Students learn best when they are relaxed so I try hard to build a relationship with them and understand what their interests are and their reasons for learning English. I will design lessons not only around what you need but also what you want. My approach is mainly conversational - and can be informal or more formal. Your choice.
Grammar is an important part of my teaching, without understanding some grammar students will find it difficult to improve. All students are different and I use methods that suit the individual. It is important to learn from real-world situations so I use newspaper articles and other real media and also make my own materials. In addition to grammar I offer conversation classes for more advanced learners.
I am a patient, honest and supportive tutor with a neutral accent - I will explain your mistakes and help you to correct them.
