I was born and raised in France, although I no longer live in France I love my home country and all my family still lives in France so I visit as often as I can. I would really like to share with you my culture, my traditions, my memories, I can help you to understand how schools, administration, health services work, etc. Having spent several summers in England as a child and lived in English speaking countries for most of my adult life, I have a native level in both spoken and written English (IELTS 8.0).
I love using English to communicate with people all around the world and find out about their culture.
I have travelled to many countries and I am used to speaking to non native speakers so I can easily adapt my level of French or English so that you can understand me well.
I hold a CELTA certificate Pass B and am currently teaching English in Vietnam. I work for two of the biggest schools in the country : Apollo and Ila. I currently teach adult classes for several international companies in Hanoi such as Honda (general, business and IELTS English) as well as young learners classes (juniors and teenagers).
I also hold:
- a British childcare qualification (NVQ Level 3), I worked as a pre-school teacher for several years, mainly with 3-to-5-year-old children
- a French teaching qualification (Professeur des Ecoles), I worked for 4 years as a primary school teacher, mainly with 8-to-12-year-old children this means that I know French grammar very well, I used to teach it to children so I can explain it simply and clearly.
I strongly believe that teaching must be engaging, relevant to each student and adapted to their level and their needs. This means that when I plan lessons I never use just a page from a course book or a generic worksheet found online.
I always look for interesting videos, pictures and articles, I adapt each lesson to the students, I look at recurrent errors and I plan specific activities, etc. I have a lot of experience with children so I can provide fun lessons which include visual activities and games, I use "positive reinforcement" which means praising children throughout the lesson to highlight their progress and their efforts.
Having learnt other languages myself and travelled in many countries where I had to use the local language to communicate, I know what is the most important, I always encourage my students to communicate in whatever possible way they can without making them feel bad about their mistakes. The most important is to be understood !
I know French grammar very well, I studied it extensively when I was training to become a primary school teacher, this means I can help you if you speak good French but want more help with your writing or if you are preparing for tests to enter university for instance.
I also have a very good awareness of English grammar as it is something we study extensively in France, I also know first hand what it means to take an English proficiency test since I took the IELTS myself !
