About me - English
My name is Theodosia. I was born and raised in Greece. I love my country and I don't want to leave it although the situation is not very easy right now. I believe in Lifelong Learning and this personal belief is my reason for teaching. We Greeks have a great language and a wonderful culture and I would like to share both with the rest of the world. This is why I want to be part of the Verbalplanet community. I'm very interested in getting to know people from other places and making them love my language. I am a very optimistic person and I tend to work with joy. I believe that I have a lot to offer to my students through teaching the Greek language which has survived time 2,500 years after its creation.
Qualifications & Experience
I have studied at the Department of Classic Studies at the University of Ioannina. I specialised in Ancient Greek and Latin. I have also attended a seminar for Teaching Greek as a Second Language to adults organised by the General Secretary for Lifelong Learning and a one-year program for Special Education organised by the University of the Aegean in Heraklion, Crete. I have a good knowledge of English (ECPE MICHIGAN, PTE Level 5) and German.(MITTELSTUFFE II).
Since my graduation in 2001, I have worked as a teacher in secondary education in Greece. I've taught Modern Greek, Ancient Greek. Latin, Literature, Ancient-Medieval-Byzantine-Modern History. Moreover, I have worked as a Greek teacher at the Police Academy in Rethymnon, Crete. I have more than 700 hours of work experience in the education of adult immigrants in Greek language, history and culture as a teacher and examiner. The program was co-funded by the Greek Ministry of Education and the European Union. For the last 15 years I have been teaching private lessons to high school students.
Teaching Approach
Since my work experience is mostly based in teaching adults I am aware of the fact that the teacher and the student should have positive emotional relations before they achieve a common goal which is the learning of a language. In my opinion, another thing that contributes to successful learning is the student's needs, whether this is basic communication in Greek or a high level of knowledge in Latin. The next step will be to explain my teaching methods to the student. We discuss changes or adaptations to my methods to their learning abilities and we decide together how we start. I have my own notes that can be sent to the student via Skype. I guarantee success to the students who will study as passionately as I do.
