Detailed Profile in English

About me

I am 27 years old and have been teaching English in 3 countries over the last 4 years including Germany, Spain and the U.S. I graduated in 2011 with a degree in German and TOEFL. I enjoy teaching because I was and still am a language learner and know how important and fun it is to learn a new language. So far I have learned German and Spanish and just started Japanese.

Qualifications & Experience

I graduated in 2011 with a degree in German and TOEFL. Since then, I have been working as an ESL teacher. I started working as a teacher in Germany for 2 years. In addition to working in the school, I also worked at a language center focusing on TOEFL prep. for Korean students called Sprachforum Spektrum located in Frankfurt, Germany. Afterwards, I moved to Spain and worked in language centers teaching grammar as well as focusing on conversation. My main job was in EDE in Burgos, Spain. I have also done private classes in person and on Skype. Classes have ranged from basic grammar for beginners to advanced writing and conversation practice for job interviews.

Teaching Approach

I like to first find out what the student wants to achieve with private lessons. Then there is an assessment of the student's skills in order to determine their level of speaking, reading, writing and listening. I then discuss my findings and ideas for the course with them. We then agree on a basic plan of action Afterwards, I'll build a curriculum to concentrate on their needs and allow them to progress with more structure and focus. All skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) are important and will almost always be included but sometimes students only want to focus on certain skills in particular, eg. writing.
