I am a native English speaker, born in Wales, but having lived in England for most of my life. I currently live near Chester, in the heart of Cheshire countryside.
I have over 25 years’ experience working in education, both teaching ESL to adults and secondary school children in the state sector. For a time I was a regional coordinator facilitating the development of the Government's ‘e-learning’ strategy to improve basic learning skills in the community. I also taught English in a language school in Portugal for over four years to adults and teenagers with levels ranging from beginner to advanced. I have taught Cambridge exams with my students all of whom passed at advanced levels. In the UK I have taught English to foreign business professionals studying on intensive, total immersion courses and for the last four years I have been teaching English online to business professionals through the medium of skype. My most recent learners have come from the banking, fashion, engineering, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and renewable energy industries and they work in diverse departments such as marketing, sales, procurement, project management, HR, finance etc.
When I am not working I like to walk in mountains, create beautiful gardens and read great books.

I am approachable and friendly, but always in a professional manner. I am reliable, punctual, am immensely patient, and speak carefully so that learners can understand every word I say. I think it is important that speaking sessions, although well structured, are relaxed so that learners gain confidence in using their spoken English. I encourage my students to speak as much as possible, without fear of making mistakes and I actively encourage them whenever possible to self correct. At the beginning of the learning program, I believe it's important to identify the individual's learning goals and needs and then work towards achieving those goals. In this way lessons are very much personalised and based on the needs and interests of the individual, with a strong emphasis on acquiring communication and language skills as applied in real life situations.
