INTRO. RATES for a limited time (new to VP)! Hi there, I'm Greg Britt and I'm the author of "TOEFL Prep for Spanish Speakers" and some 15 other text books. I specialize in preparing students to take the TOEFL (iBT, ITP, PBT) exam. With over 20 years of teaching experience, I can help you with these tests as well as IELTS and TOEIC. My programs are also appropriate as an advanced grammar course and/or English teacher training. Sorry, I do not offer basic-intermediate classes, but might be open to specialized/conversation classes for advanced students.
Your course will be taught using the most appropriate of my many text books (over 15) or other materials (to be provided). This will be determined in your complimentary, evaluation trial class.
You can purchase this book online before you start studying with me or you will be provided with a free pdf.
It would be great if you could set up a trial lesson so that I can learn more about your personal situation and goals. If you're interested in test prep, it is useful to know why you want to take the TOEFL (or other test), how many points you need, deadlines, previous scores, etc.
If you are taking a test to apply to a university, I can also help by reviewing your application documents (personal statement, letters of reference, etc.)
I've helped hundreds of happy students in my teaching career of over 20 years and look forward to working with you too!
I am the Director of Britt Servicios Lingüisticos in Mexico City, a small language institute that specializes in TOEFL test prep.
I have several years of teaching on-line and extensive experience teaching students who's first language is Spanish, but also many other languages, particularly Chinese and Japanese.
I started my teaching career as a professor of English at ITESM (Tec de Monterrey in Mexico City).
I have a B.A. in English from Auburn University (USA), and have completed advanced ESL (English as a Second Language) and Spanish language studies at UNAM (The Autonomous National University of Mexico) and ITESM. TESOL certified.
For fun, I enjoy gastronomy. I've written a restaurant review article, "Let's Eat Out", for various newspapers, including "The Miami Herald", "Mexico City Time"s, & "The News".
I've recently completed my first novel.
I reside in Mexico City but have also lived in the Bahamas and Acapulco.
Experience: 22+ years of teaching
I prefer to teach using my own textbooks - as mentioned, these can be purchased or you will be provided a pdf file to download.
The books are written in a work-book style, so after explanations are given, numerous exercises will be reviewed, concentrating on errors and problem areas that might need further work. We will see the structures we study in the format of the TOEFL (or other) exam as well, with "mini-TOEFL" exercises and, depending on the student, do one complete exam.
Please schedule a free evaluation so that I can best determine the most appropriate course and materials. In fact, I would prefer that you not sign up for classes until we've had this important meeting.
You should plan on committing about 20 hours to complete a test prep or advanced grammar course. While this is my specialty, feel free to discuss other types of classes (specialized, conversation, writing) that might interest you.
Those unable to commit to less than 20 hrs. will need to compensate by doing more homework. The combination of hours is not important--you can finish quickly with an intensive program, or study fewer hours for a longer time.
Please schedule a free trial lesson to discuss your academic goals with me and let's get started. I look forward to putting my many years of teaching experience to work for you!
