About me - English
Hello! I am a native English speaker, born and raised in Pennsylvania, USA. I have a bachelor's degree in French, but my French is very rusty. I can speak a little bit of Spanish as well. I am a teacher, a mother of four, and a tea connoisseur. I am learning to play the banjo, but I'm not a very good musician. I truly love to teach.
Qualifications & Experience
I have a master's degree in English from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. I have four years experience teaching English at the college level, in Illinois and in Texas. I have worked as an English language tutor and pronunciation coach for private clients for two years. My specialties are grammar and pronunciation. I have had English pronunciation coaching myself, when I was studying acting at the Showcase Theater in New York. There, I learned Standard English pronunciation.
Teaching Approach
I have traveled to many countries, and I know how it feels to try to understand someone speaking their native language. I was a student of foreign languages for many years, and I know what makes a good language teacher: clear, simple, and direct speech without idioms or expressions. When coaching foreign students, I can describe the placement of the jaw, lips and tongue to help reduce your accent. I am very comfortable teaching you English-- anyone from a beginner to a fluent non-native speaker who wants to improve your pronunciation and conversation skills.
