About me - English
My name is Wilmarys Avellones. I'm a Spanish native speaker from Valencia in Venezuela where I currently live.
I would describe myself as a proactive, very patient, commited to work, friendly and open-minded person. I'm interested in technology, politics and culture.
When I started teaching Spanish online, I got stuck to it. I loved the idea of teaching my language and being able to connect to other people from around the world. I'm passionate about teaching and the exchange of cultural information with students.
I love listening to music, watching movies, cooking, doing gardening, traveling, and most of all, I enjoy spending time with my family.
Qualifications & Experience
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education with a major in English from the University of Carabobo in Venezuela.
I started teaching in 2007, for some years I worked in high schools and language institutes in Venezuela.
In 2011 I began teaching Spanish online, using different tools and resources that technology offers. During this time, I've also worked on the development of curriculum and material for Spanish courses, as well as on translations from English into Spanish.
Teaching Approach
When studying a language it is important to learn vocabulary and grammar, but beyond that, it is necessary to understand in which situations those grammar structures are useful. That is why in my classes I use the Communicative Approach, training students to communicate in real life situations using appropriate grammar structures.
Besides teaching and practicing grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, I include reading activities and conversational practices in my classes to help students improve fluency and confidence when speaking.
Every student is different, so classes are custumized according to the student's needs.
