Hi there! My name is Andrea Bernachia and I'm a teacher of English as a Second or Foreign Language.
I'm 30 years old and was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina and from a very early age I studied English and was fascinated by the language and the culture. Once I finished secondary school, I went on to a teacher training college to get my degree in teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language.
After graduating, I went to Ireland on a sort of "gap year". I worked there in a language school teaching English and then as an aupair looking after 4 children and living with the family. When my visa expired, I went to the UK and spent the next 5 months travelling from Scotland to Cornwall. It was the best experience of my life to date since I visited all the places I had seen in books, met tons of new people, learnt a lot about the language and the culture of the countries I visited and I also improved my pronunciation to the point people can't tell where I'm from.
As I said above, I have a degree in teaching English, which is the equivalent to a BA in Applied Linguistics.
I have been teaching for 10 years now. I've taught young learners, teenagers and adults in different contexts. I started out in a language school and currently, I teach in secondary schools and in companies.
I specialise in General English, training for Cambridge exams (FCE, CAE, CPE) and Business English, from beginners to advanced.
In most of my classes I am in charge of designing the curriculum to fit my students' needs so I'm quite used to assessing what my students want and then creating a plan to help them achieve their goals.
My teaching approach will depend on what you want. That means that I will try to know as much as possible about you in our first lesson in order to create a plan and decide what materials we're going to use.
Whether it's preparation for a job interview, training for international exams or just conversation to maintain your language skills, I will adapt the topics and activities we do so that you achieve your goals and enjoy doing so. I tend to use a lot of authentic material such as news articles and videos as well as setting revision activities for you to keep up your practice.
Although the communicative approach is the one I base most of my teaching on, if you are preparing for exams or to study at university, we can focus more on grammar and exam techniques to help you succeed.
Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing will be the pillars of our lessons and of course they will include grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.
Send me a message or book a lesson with me so you tell me what you are looking for and we can start working together to improve your English!
