About me - English
My name is Serena Ly. I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. English is my first language, but growing up I spoke Cantonese in the household. Approximately 5 years ago, I moved to Thailand for a few months to learn Muay Thai and to teach English. During my time there, I taught in the private and public sector to children 4 and older. I then moved to Squamish, Canada where I taught ESL to adult immigrants for approximately 2 years both online and face-to-face. I am currently teaching children and adults a creative movement program called Ninja Training.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelors of Commerce from Ryerson University (Major: Business & Law, Minor: Entrepeneurship)
TESL Certificate Program from University of Winnipeg (Certified under TESL CANADA)
TESOL Certificate from Global TESOL College (Specialization: TESOL Practicum)
Teaching Approach
My current teaching approach is catered to the clients' goal. For students who are trying to complete their practicum, I have a more academic approach focused on grammar and writing. For adults, who's goal is to learn how to speak English, my approach is more laid back and focused on everyday language opposed to the proper grammatical form.
