Hello! My name is Mirjana. I am a native speaker of English from the "Big Apple", a nickname for the place most people know as New York City. Even though I grew up there, my family comes from Serbia. Serbia is a little country in Europe, and Belgrade is its capital city where I currently live and work. Since I come from a family that has always spoken 2 languages (English and Serbian), and because of my experiences with meeting people from all over the world during my time travelling (one of my favorite hobbies), I have been increasingly fascinated by linguistics and how we use it in everyday life. This is why I genuinely feel that it is important to learn languages, it's how we connect to the world around us. English is important in the modern day and age, and can help us reach new heights professionally and communicate with individuals from all different areas of life and the world.

I am a CELTA certified English teacher. Since the completion of my CELTA course in 2016 I have continuously had my own classes with children in private language schools (from beginner groups to upper-intermediate ones) where I followed the curriculum provided to me by the school as well as supplemented my own materials when needed. I have held conversation classes with students of all ages and levels on many topics and have even had private one-on-one lessons with lower level adults. Most of my teaching experience has been in Belgrade, Serbia, so I have experience teaching in only the target language of the students.

I believe that the most difficult part of language learning is building the skills and confidence to speak fluently and comfortably, and that the best way to work on these skills is through free-flowing conversation which uses the areas of language that have been worked on or that the student feels insecure about. Through activities, games and discussions about life experiences I like to practice different areas of grammar and everyday language with students. I always try my best to tailor my classes to the needs of my students, whether they prefer to focus more on grammar or are just looking for someone to talk with and improve on what they have previously learned.
