Hi everyone, my name is Nicholas and I am 29 years old. I am from Australia however I currently live in Colombia where I am an English teacher at a university. My main passion in life is travelling and seeing new places in the world. I have travelled to every continent in the world (except Antartica) and have loved every minute of it. I am also a very keen surfer that loves to travel to remote locations to surf. I am a very open-minded and friendly person that can hold a great conversation with anyone and challenge every student to give it their best when practising/learning English.
- Bachelor degree in Commerce/Business (Curtin University, Australia)
- TEFL certified training (myTEFL)
- Current English teacher at university level (Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Medellin, Colombia)
- 2 years experience teaching children ages 8 to 13 (Community projects, Colombia)
My teaching approach is conversational based by selecting topics that interest the student as well as choosing new/challenging topics that will force the student to think differently and expand the students vocabulary. I also like to use games and small challenges such as flash cards, pictures and sounds to challenge the student to use other areas of the brain and to communicate in English. I always ensure the lessons are fun and engaging but at the same time the student is being challenged whilst learning and practising their English.
I always aim for the student to be speaking at least 80% of the lesson rather than the teaching talking for the majority of the lesson. This allows for continued and repetitive practice and significantly new word retention and fluidity.
