My name is Suzanne Sober. I am 26 years old. I am a native speaker of Arabic and English.

I was born in Bedfordshire, England. I moved with my family to Amman, Jordan when I was 6 years old where I completed all my school years at a national school that follows the Jordanian Arabic curriculum. I obtained my Bachelor’s degree at the University of Jordan in Biological Sciences. I then went on to study for my Master’s degree in Applied Biological Sciences at Jordan University of Science and Technology and graduated in 2018. I am currently living in Minnesota, USA.

I come from a family of diverse nationalities. My mother is English and my father is Jordanian of Circassian descent. I am therefore fortunate to say that I am native in both English and Arabic alike. When learning the Circassian language however, I got to experience what it was like to try to master a completely new and quite difficult language from a very early age. I was enrolled in various courses that employed various techniques in language teaching, but I found that the best and most efficient way to learn a language was by conversing with a native speaker rather than listing words and their definitions or memorizing grammatical rules. I therefore use this approach with my students.

In Amman, I had the wonderful opportunity to teach at two different international schools. In the first school, I taught English, Science, Math, and Social Studies to grade three SAT students. In the second school, I taught Science to grade five IB students. In both schools I was faced with the challenge of finding creative and engaging ways to educate children in a language that was not their mother tongue. It was a challenge I thoroughly enjoyed and was immensely rewarded by the great success of my students

Learning a new language is fulfilling and rewarding. It opens you up to a whole new world. Learning Arabic will allow you to explore the Arabic culture, rich with centuries long traditions, beautiful poetry and music, and most importantly, you will be able to read recipes for delicious Arabic food!

I am flexible in my teaching approach as I let my student's needs and interests determine the material I teach.

I believe that developing language skills requires enthusiasm, dedication, lots of conversation and lots of reading, all of which I apply in my lessons. I use a variety of methods suitable for learners of all levels, including introducing and discussing vocabulary, making and explaining sentences, watching videos, reading stories, engaging in discussion and lots of practice.I have a little white board that I like to use to explain specific points. My lesson plans are flexible in order to accommodate the needs and inquiries of my students. The focus can be on improving reading and writing skills, practicing conversation, building vocabulary, understanding grammar, or all of these combined.

I also provide lessons for those who would like to learn how to read the Holy Quran and those who want to learn the rules of tilawa and tajweed while reading.

اسمي سوزان صوبر و عمري ستة و عشرين عاماً. أنا متحدثة أصلية باللغتين العربية و الإنجليزية.

ولدت في بيدفوردشير، إنجلترا. انتقلت مع عائلتي إلى عمان، الأردن عندما كنت في السادسة من عمري حيث أتممت جميع دراستي المدرسية في مدرسة وطنية يتبع المنهاج الأردني العربي. حصلت على درجة البكالوريوس في العلوم الحياتية من الجامعة الأردنية، و بعد ذلك سعيت للحصول على درجة الماجستير في العلوم الحياتية التطبيقية، حيث تخرجت في عام ٢٠١٨.

انحدر من عائلة تتنوع فيها الجنسيات، حيث أن أمي إنجليزية و أبي أردني من أصول شركسية، لذلك فأنا محظوظة بأنني أتحدث اللغتين العربية و الإنجليزية بطلاقة تامة، و لكن عندما كنت أتعلم اللغة الشركسية مررت بعمر مبكر بتجربة محاولة تعلم لغة جديدة و صعبة للغاية. التحقت بالعديد من الدورات التي كانت توظف الكثير من الأساليب المتنوعة، لكنني وجدت أن الحوار مع متحدث طليق هي أكثر الطرق كفاءة لتعلم لغة جديدة، فضلاً على مجرد تكوين قوائم بالمفردات و معانيها أو مذاكرة قواعد النحو و الصرف. لهذا فأنا أتبع أسلوب الحوار بكثرة مع طلابي.

لقد سنحت لي الفرصة بأن أدرّس في مدرستين دوليتين في عمّان، حيث درّست اللغة الإنجليزية و الرياضيات و العلوم و العلوم الإجتماعية لطلاب الصف الثالث في المدرسة الأولى، أما في المدرسة الثانية، فقد درّست مادة العلوم لطلاب الصف الخامس. في كلتا المدرستين واجهت تحدياً لإيجاد طرق مبدعة و محمسة لتعليم الطلاب مواداً مختلفة في لغة غير لغتهم الأم، و قد استمعت كثيراً بهذا التحدي و كوفئت بالنجاح العظيم الذي حققه طلابي.

إن تعلم لغة جديدة هي تجربة مفرحة و مكافِئة، حيث تفتح لك أبواب عالم جديد. تعلُم اللغة العربية تسمح لك باستكشاف الثقاقة العربية المليء بالعادات التي تعود لمئات الأعوام، و الشعر و الموسيقى العربية الجميلة، و الأهم من ذلك كله، هو أنك ستتمكن من قراءة الوصفات للطعام العربي اللذيذ!

أتمتع بالمرونة في أسلوب تدريسي، حيث أن احتياجات و اهتمامات المتعلم يحددان المادة التي أدرّسها.

أؤمن بأن تطوير المهارات اللغوية تتطلب الحماس و التفاني و الكثير من الحوار و القراءة، و أطبق كل ذلك في دروسي إذ أستخدم أساليب متنوعة تناسب المتعلمين من جميع المراحل المختلفة، منها التعريف بالمفردات الجديدة و مناقشتها، وتكوين و تفسير الجُمل و مشاهدة الفيديوهات و قراءة القصص و مناقشتها. أحب أن استخدم لوحاً صغيراً لتوضيح بعض النقاط خلال الشرح. خططي الداسية مرنة لتتوافق مع احتياجات و تساؤلات الطلبة، إذ يمكن أن يكون التركيز على تحسين مهارات القراءة

و الكتابة أو التمريت على المحادثة أو أو التعرف على المصطلحات الجديدة أو فهم القواعد اللغةية أو جميع ما ذكر.

أقدم أيضاً دروساً لمن يريد أن يتعلم قراءة القرآن الكريم و لمن يريد أن يتعلم أحكام التلاوة و التجويد.
