Hi, my name is Shelley and I am a professional English teacher from the United States. I'm from the US, but currently live in the Netherlands (better known as Holland). I earned a Bachelor's of History in 2009 and a Masters of Teaching from the University of North Carolina in 2010. After earning my Masters of Teaching, I started teaching English, which has afforded me the ability to meet people from all over the world and travel to places I never dreamed about. When I'm not working, I enjoy learning foreign languages, rock climbing, and traveling.
I earned a Masters of Teaching degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and then earned my TEFL certification. I've been teaching English to teenage and adult language learners for over 6 years and I take pride in my skills as a supportive, responsive, and empathetic teacher. I have taught over 2,000 private English classes to students from 41+ different countries. I offer customized lessons for each student and strive to focus on topics they are interested in and aspects of English they actually need to improve. I do not want students to waste their time or their money, so classes are designed for their interests, needs, and skill level. My lessons are for intermediate to advanced English learners. I teach adults and teenagers. My prices reflect my years of experience.
Each class is customized for the student, depending on their interests and what they need to improve. I teach Business English, Test Preparation, Conversation, Interview skills, and General English (instruction + exercises + conversation). Students choose what they want the lesson to be like. For example, some students prefer structured lessons where we learn a topic and practice using it in a realistic way. Others prefer to read articles and discuss them, while others prefer to learn Business English. Those are a few of the teaching styles I offer, although there are many more teaching styles I can use and have used in the past.
During a trial lesson, we can discuss what the next lessons should be like and what your learning style is. If requested, I provide students with notes and examples of what they've done well and what they should improve. I can also provide homework and we can discuss the answers in our next class. Students must provide their own textbooks if they choose to use one. I accept intermediate to advanced English learners. I cannot accept beginner and elementary students.
