I am originally from England but I completed my BA in English at Queen's University Belfast and Utrecht Universiteit in The Netherlands. I studied for one year in The Netherlands with a British Council Erasmus Scholarship and then did a fast track Master's degree in European Literatures at The University of Bristol. After this I began teaching and tutoring in South Korea and gained over six years of teaching experience teaching in both public and private institutions. I am now doing a PhD in English at Canterbury University in New Zealand.
I have a TEFL Certification which I gained in 2013. The majority of my teaching experience is in English Camps. I taught at Muju Global Education Center initially and then moved into the private academy system, in which I taught for a year and a half. Then I returned to English Camps for the following three years until I began my PhD two months ago.
Much of my work has involved helping students and adults complete presentations to gain a higher appreciation and understanding of other nations and cultures, as well as how to communicate using the English Language.
Much of my approach lies in responding to the needs of students and encouraging them to open up at their own pace. One of my first adult students did not speak at all in the first class but opened up eventually and later met her current husband in my class. It is helpful to understand why students are learning a language and to let them go at the pace which suits them rather than forcing a pre-set pace upon them.
