My name is Pietro, and I’m an Italian teacher and pronunciation coach on Verbalplanet.

I have 10 years of experience teaching Italian to foreigners from all over the world.

I worked both as a freelancer and with "Istituto Venezia", in Venice, one of the most renowned schools in Italy.

I teach with a communicative approach, based on conversation and real-life situations, but I can also tailor the lessons based on your time and needs.

I’m also a pronunciation coach, which means I can teach you how to reduce your mother-tongue accent, focusing on how to correctly pronounce Italian sounds and mimic Italian intonation.

REAL-LIFE ITALIAN

The communicative approach has been around for decades, and that's because it's a brilliant way to learn any foreign language. Its main goal is to answer the question "what do I say in this situation" rather than "how do I say this word in Italian?" I will show you how to speak Italian in real-life situations and refrain from "translating" your native language. As a textbook, we will use the popular Nuovo Espresso, published by Loescher Editore.

PRONUNCIATION COACHING

Traditionally, it was thought that you could learn the correct pronunciation and intonation of the foreign language you are learning just by speaking it long enough. More and more teachers are realizing this is not the case. We will learn how to move our mouth and tongue to effectively reproduce Italian sounds and to analyze our pitch to mimic Italian intonation. As a textbook we will use Pronunciare l'Italiano, by Lidia Costamagna.

CONVERSATION

If you want to just practice your Italian, we will do it scientifically and effectively. I will use a shared text file to write down the mistakes you do while talking and write new phrases and constructions to add to your Italian repertoire, based on the topics you are interested in.
