About me - Greek
Είμαι η Ηρώ Παπαευαγγέλου, born and raised in a city in northern Greece. I am 26 years old and currently residing in Greece. I graduated from the Department of Greek Philology at the University of Thrace, specializing in Classical Studies with a focus on Ancient Greek Language and Latin.
During my studies, I recognized the significance of teaching Greek to adults, teenagers, and children. I strive to impart knowledge through my classes to teenagers and adults because I believe that excellent learning outcomes can be achieved through the interaction between the teacher and the student. My enthusiasm is substantial when connecting with individuals who are ready to learn more about my language and culture, and I am willing to dedicate a lot of time and new ideas to assist students on their journey to discovering the Greek language and culture.
Qualifications & Experience
I am a graduate of the Department of Greek Philology at Democritus University of Thrace, specializing in Classical Studies, Ancient Greek Language, and Latin. During my academic journey, I had the privilege of participating in two Erasmus+ programs, first at the University Paul Valéry Montpellier III in the Department of Classical Studies and later at Sorbonne Paris Nord/Paris XIII University in the Department of Modern Studies and Literature. This period served as the primary motivation for me to become more interested in teaching the Greek language, both in multicultural environments and to people from all around the world.
In 2020, I continued and expanded my education by enrolling in the Master's program titled "Texts and Culture" at the Department of Greek Philology, with a focus on contemporary Greek philology and modern Greek literature. I have actively participated in seminars and conferences, including presenting my research at the 27th International Scientific Conference for Undergraduate, Postgraduate Students, and Young Researchers organized by Moscow University.
I speak Greek, English, and French, and I am a certified independent computer user. Regarding my professional experience in teaching Greek, I have been working in this field since 2018, teaching both new and ancient Greek language. I provide private lessons to children and teenagers and offer support in their school subjects up to the present day.
Additionally, I have worked as a member of the teaching team at the Greek Community of Catalonia through an internship I completed in 2022. During my stay in Barcelona, I participated in teaching new Greek language to adults, deepening my understanding of the teaching approaches required when addressing different age groups.
A very interesting and valuable experience I gained recently is my role as an instructor in intensive courses on new Greek language and culture in Syros, where people of all ages from around the world participated.
I offer private lessons in ancient Greek, modern Greek language, and literature to teenagers while also teaching the new Greek language to multilingual teenagers and adults.
Teaching Approach
The teaching approaches I have chosen for teaching the Modern Greek language vary, but always adapt to the individual student, while sharing a common foundation. Students have the opportunity to acquire knowledge through materials tailored to their level, and at the same time, the lessons are enriched with content from the press, literature, and Greek music. Grammatical phenomena and vocabulary found in texts and songs are adjusted to the students' needs to facilitate language teaching and learning. I believe that this approach allows students to engage with the real dimension of the language and to develop through an interesting and enjoyable process.
Each lesson is personalized and perfectly aligned with the needs of each student. A significant portion of the lessons is dedicated to understanding spoken language with the aim of familiarizing the student with the language, understanding errors, and ensuring correct use of vocabulary and grammar.
