Steven joined Verbalplanet in June 2012 learning Hungarian. With Hungarian being a language with relatively few speakers, finding a native speaking Hungarian tutor close to home or work proved challenging. By choosing to learn a language online, Steven was able to remove distance or the absence of a local language teacher as a barrier to learning the language of his ancesters.
I am learning Hungarian, which I spoke a little as a child with my great-grandmother. After she passed away, I tried to continue on my own but life intervened and I had to focus on studying other things and working.
I have been using Verbalplanet since January 2013. I’m re-learning Hungarian now to connect with my ancestry. Hungarian was always a special, secret language for me, and it has never lost that magical feeling. Every day, I look forward to learning new Hungarian words and improving my ability to read so I can enjoy Hungarian literature and poetry in it's original form.
Verblaplanet is an affordable and convenient way to study. I am very happy with my tutor and the Verbalplanet service that makes my lessons possible. I wasn’t able to find a tutor in my area and going to a school to take a class wasn’t convenient because of my work deadlines.
It was the first online language learning service I tried, and I have been very happy with the service and my tutor. I like having this service to connect tutors with students; it’s very convenient. I also continue to watch TV in Hungarian, read newspapers, and record my studies in a journal.

I am able to say a lot and read much more than when I started. I enjoy reading news every day, and one of my goals was to be able to read newspaper articles in Hungarian, which I can now down much more easily.
I read in Hungarian every day and I am starting to read literature, which I have always wanted to do. For me, it’s important to speak other languages because that is a passion of mine and I am also a translator.
I have been recommending Verbalplanet when I meet people who want to learn another language, because of the quality of the tutors, the affordability of the lessons and the convenience of online learning.
The Hungarian language is a Finno-Ugric language, and has little relation to the other languages of Central Europe. As one of a small number of modern European languages which do not belong to the Indo-European language family, it has always been of great interest to linguists.
It is spoken in Hungary by approximately 10 million people and by around 3 million people living in neighbouring countries. Hungarian forms part of the Uralic language family. The Hungarian name for the language is magyar which is also occasionally used as an English word to refer to the Hungarian people as an ethnic group.
Regular conversation with native Hungarian speakers is the key to real fluency. There's no better way to build confidence, develop comprehension skills, and achieve natural pronunciation with an authentic accent. Rated Excellent on Trustpilot, our online language classes are fun, effective and guaranteed to get you talking.
Enjoy live online Hungarian lessons with a personal online Hungarian tutor on Skype, Zoom or Teams. We've helped thousands of students learn a new language online and we can help you too.
